Join us for a four week Sunday youth cooking series (with a mid-series break) where chef Carl Recolaso and Candace Jones will teach our young chefs fundamental cooking skills! Whether your child is just starting out in the kitchen or is more advanced, these chef led classes will be tailored so that your child can learn and develop the life long skill of cooking. After completing the 4 week program your child will receive a Local Kitchen Certificate of completion!
Week 1 - October 28th: Fun Fundamentals
This introductory class covers the important topics of knife skills and food safety through practical preparation of soups and sauces (such as vinaigrette and mayonnaise)
Week 2 - Nov 4th: Manic Meat Day
Learn different methods for meat preparation and cooking through examples such as meatballs, chicken nuggets and barbecued pork skewers
Nov 11th: Break for long weekend
Week 3 - Nov 18th: On your mark, get set, Dough
Dough is a versatile part of any chef's repertoire. In this class we will make a classic pastry dough and a yeast-based pizza dough as well as discussing the difference between dessert dough's and entree dough's.
Week 4 - Nov 25th: Cooking is an Art; Baking is a Science
For our finale class we will be baking the perfect cake! While the cake is cooling and getting ready to decorate we will discuss some baking science experiments, such as what happens if you forget to add baking soda or an egg to a recipe. The class will finish by decorating their own mini cakes to take home.
1. Provide young chefs with cooking techniques that will help them feel more confident in the kitchen.
2. Participants will learn important food and knife safety protocols that are critical to safe, independent cooking.
3. Each participant will have hand-ons practice with different cooking techniques such as cooking meat, making doughs, and baking.
